Tui Na in the modern day and outside China
In tuina clinics we treat on many levels. Tuina is used as a massage to relax the body, aid repair to damaged tissue, mobilise joints, increase movement of the body and expand the range of movement of all the joints.
When treating an older person, tuina is also used to strengthen the patient, By the use of BO FA, plucking of the muscle you can stimulate the growth and strength of the muscle lessening the muscle atrophy, If these muscles are of the legs then you increase the patients gait and balance while improving their posture. This works very well with patients over 60 years of age.
If the patient is under 40 year of age, then we use more YAO FA, BAN FA and DOU FA as part of the main techniques to improve the range of movement and flexibillty in the hips, knees and ankles. This will help with the patients speed and mobility especially while playing fast sports. Errol Lynch will be the main teacher for the duration of the course, you will get to work with other tuina practitioner from around the UK.

Tuina is an Ancient healing art that employs the use of the hands to press on key points on the surface of the body to stimulate the body’s own natural healing process.
When these points are stimulated, they release tension and increase the bodies circulation of blood and nutrients to bring about the body’s own healing process.
Tuina and acupuncture use the same meridians and points and they are both based in traditional Chinese medicine for its diagnosis: seeing, touching, palpating and questioning. The tongue and pulse are also used to diagnose many of the internal conditions that may present at clinic.
Tuina is a hands on therapy and the practitioner can stimulate many points during a single treatment, dredge many channels/meridians compared to acupuncture as 400 needles may be too excessive for the patient to handle.
Tuina also has the ability to work on the local muscle near the trauma Tuina meaning push and pluck can break down adhesions and scar tissue at the local level to increase the flow of blood and oxygen (chi) to carry away damaged tissue.
One of the many advantages of tuina is that it can be taught to the patient as a remedial therapy to perform daily as a routine to maintain the healing process, encourage blood and oxygen to flow through any damaged area of the body.
My Clinical experience of over 14 years has shown that tuina can be effective in helping relieve, headache, migraine, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle pain, strain, cramps, menstrual pain, small joint dislocations, martial art traumatic injuries, dance injuries, vertigo, poor muscle growth when training, problems with the endocrine system, insomnia, stress at work and home, constipation, diarrhoea, bell’s palsy, trigger finger, swollen knee, wry neck, cervical spondylosis, frozen shoulder, RSI to the joints, muscle ruptures full or partial, stroke, cold hands and feet, sciatic pain, back pain, poor energy, muddy thinking (thoughts not clear) removal of scar tissue, These are some of the more successful cases that I have treated with tuina massage therapy.

Professor Fan Head of the Tui na Association Zhe Jiang Province and Professor Jiang Director of the City hospital Hang Zhou, China. Doctor Li Hang Director of the Tui Na department, Zhe Jiang Hospital of TCM. These are a few of the doctors that Errol has had the pleasure of working with.
While Studying with these doctors, each in their own specialised field of Tui Na Errol learnt many approaches to Tui Na from internal medicine to external medicine to sports injury to paediatric Tui Na.
Errol has travelled back and forth to China for the last ten years, studying Tui Na and assisting foreign students in its tuition including students from Israel, Canada and the USA.
Due to Errol's physical strength he has specialised in sports injury focussing on many of the internal diseases that can benefit from tui na massage, like diabetes, digestive and reproductive disorders.
Due to the lack of tui na practitioners and teachers in the UK. the "Tui na Student to Master" series was made, "Tui na the Art" being the first DVD. It took two years to complete Filming in China and the UK." Tui na the Art" is a step by step guide to performing tui na massage.
Now armed with the DVD the plan is to promote Tui Na through Europe; Finland, Sweden, UK, Germany and France. All things going well Errol will be travelling to Canada, Australia and the USA.
At present Errol is in talks with Acupuncture colleges in the UK that plan to add Tui Na to their curriculum from September 2008.
